The Zunpulse smart doorbell comes in a sleek and rectangular design that might remind you of traditional doorbells, but don’t be fooled – it’s packed with a lot of technology. On the front of the doorbell, there’s a circular module that houses an HD camera, a light sensor, and a motion sensor, all working together to detect any visitors at your doorstep. Whenever someone arrives or there is a movement nearby, you will receive instant notifications. Additionally, the module has a microphone, enabling you to engage in two-way communication with your visitors.
The Zunpulse smart doorbell comes in two colors: black and white. Our test unit was the sleek black one, and it looked really cool with its smooth finish, giving it a stealthy vibe. However, it’s worth noting that it has a fiber coating that could be susceptible to scratches, especially if curious kids in the neighborhood try to play with it.
In addition to the main doorbell unit, you will also receive a handy accessory called the “chime.” The chime is square-shaped and comes with plugs, making it easy to place anywhere in your living room or bedroom – wherever you spend most of your time at home. When someone rings the doorbell, the chime produces a pleasant sound, so you don’t miss any visitors even if you’re not near the main unit.
How to set up Zunpulse smart doorbell
It is pretty easy to install the Zunpulse smart doorbell. I took help from the technician but if you do not manage to find one, you can follow the simple steps listed below to install the smart doorbell at your home without the help of a technician.
Step 1: Take the Zunpulse smart doorbell out of the box and check whether you have all the necessary components: the doorbell unit, mounting bracket, screws, anchors, power cables, and any other included items.
Step 2: Find a suitable location for the doorbell near your front door. Make sure it has a good Wi-Fi signal and a clear view of the area you want to monitor.
Step 3: On your smartphone, go to the app store (Google Play Store for Android or App Store for iPhone) and search for the “Zunpulse” app. Download and install the app on your phone.
Step 4: Open the Zunpulse app and create a new account using your email address or phone number. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your account.
Step 5: In the app, follow the instructions to add a new device. Select “Zunpulse Smart Doorbell” from the options and follow the prompts to put the doorbell into pairing mode.
Step 6: Once the doorbell is in pairing mode, the app will guide you to connect it to your home Wi-Fi network. Enter your Wi-Fi credentials as requested by the app.
Step 8: Using the provided mounting bracket, position the doorbell at your chosen location. Mark the spots for the screw holes, drill them, and insert the anchors (if needed). Then, attach the mounting bracket using the screws.
Step 9: Carefully attach the Zunpulse smart doorbell to the mounting bracket. Ensure it’s firmly secured.
Step 10: Press the doorbell button to check if it’s working correctly. You should receive an alert on your smartphone through the Zunpulse app.
Performance
The Zunpulse smart doorbell is designed to function not only as a doorbell but also as a security camera. The camera built into the doorbell allows me to keep a watchful eye on everything happening outside my door. I have the convenience of recording footage and taking snapshots whenever needed. Plus, the Zunpulse app sends me notifications every time there’s movement in front of the doorbell. It’s quite handy, as the ring light around the push button turns red to alert me of any motion detected.
Though it can be a tad bit overwhelming with frequent notifications, I understand that the device is designed this way to prioritize security. Even when my neighbors have visitors, the app sends me notifications. One great security feature is that when someone presses the button, I instantly receive a call through the app. This lets me decide whether I want to open the door or communicate with the visitor via the phone. I find it incredibly helpful to talk to the visitor from the comfort of my bedroom or any other place in the house.
Just a heads up, the Zunpulse app heavily relies on a stable Wi-Fi connection. So, I always make sure that my device stays connected to Wi-Fi at all times to ensure smooth functionality.
Speaking of the Zunpulse app, I must admit that it has some bugs and isn’t the most user-friendly app out there. For instance, there have been occasions when I tried to check the live footage of the area outside my door, but the app took an unusually long time to load, even when there was a stable network connection. Additionally, the screenshot button doesn’t seem to work properly most of the time. It’s frustratingly slow; if, for instance, someone runs past the door and I want to take a quick screenshot, the app lags and takes quite some time to respond.
Another issue I noticed is that the app sometimes fails to send notifications even when there is movement detected outside. Though this doesn’t happen all the time, it’s still a concern as it affects the overall reliability of the security system.
Furthermore, I found the app to be a little unreliable when it comes to the doorbell ring notifications. There have been instances where the receiving button had to be pressed really hard to get a response. And at times, it simply became non-responsive, which was quite frustrating.
