By Abhik Sengupta: Battleground Mobile India (BGMI) maker Krafton has officially announced a new smartphone title, dubbed Defense Derby, in India. The game has been available for “early access” since May, though users can now download the free-to-play title on Google Play, Apple App Store, and Samsung Galaxy Store. The game is created by Krafton’s independent studio RisingWings. India Today Tech also reported about the development of the Defense Derby alongside The Callisto Protocol late last year. The latter is already available in India via Steam for Rs 2,499.
Defense Derby is a “strategy game” in the Tower Defense genre, which is quite different from BGMI’s battle royale-style gameplay. The primary motive is to create a strong deck with special characters and destroy the enemy’s tower. Krafton explains that Defense Derby provides different game modes, including a core Derby Mode where players battle against each other (PvP). There is a Blitz Mode that offers PvE challenges. With Friendly Derby, players can establish rooms to engage their friends in combat. Themed Mode offers a periodic shift in rules and is accessible for a limited period. Anticipated updates also include the Ban Pick Mode, allowing players to block specific opponent units, and Quest Mode, where the first to survive the onslaught and complete specific quests wins.
Speaking over the release, Sinchan Park, Production Director for Defense Derby at RisingWings, said in a release, “We’re thrilled to finally bring Defense Derby, two years in the making, to players across India.”
Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO at Krafton India, lauded the launch and said, “We are dedicated to introducing regular updates and exciting new content keeping in line with the needs and feedback of our fans.”
Krafton India is also celebrating the launch by offering a “Welcome Package” to new players. It includes 20,000 Gold, a Rare Hero card, a Rare Unit card, and a Special Castle Skin. Moreover, players can earn rewards, including Legendary Unit cards, Rare Unit cards, Cubics, Gold, and more through participating in in-game events like the Login Event, Lucky Draw, and Event Store.
Meanwhile, Krafton reintroduced BGMI to Indian players in May following a brief ban. The action game is available to play on Android smartphones as well as iPhones, though with minor tweaks, making it more suitable for minors in the country. Krafton also offers mobile games, like Road to Valor Empire and New State in India via Google Play and Apple App Store.
